How to use PIM in AI

AI has changed the work flow processes for much of the work that we do every day.  At PIMInto we feel that we should embrace technology and leverage AI to perform many of the analysis and enrichment tasks and product management of the Products data in the Product Information Management System (PIM) that we can.  Making it easier for our user to manage their products is the entire purpose of PIMInto.  We feel that locking users into one AI option or requiring that user purchase tokens for use in the PIM may be profitable but a very short sighted disservice to our customers.

The PIMInto team has developed both the PIMInto PIM Skill for importing into AI as well as the Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectivity to the PIM so that users can define how they want to use their data in their business processes and workflow.

This breaks the traditional customer profitability lock in that most PIM providers leverage in order to maximize the profitability of each PIM customer. Traditionally PIM systems have relied on providing a limited number of output formats or output connections at eah subscription pricing tier.  The higher the number of connections then the higher the subscription fees.  This is utilized by many PIM providers to maximize the monthly subscription fees.  Not by PIMInto.  The primary PIMInto subscription fee driver is the number of items stored in the PIM, not the  number of output or connections.

With the ability to manipulate PIM data directly by AI in the case of PIMInto then this completely changes the dynamic.  Now AI can be used to connect the PIM to thousands of external systems and the data formats can be managed in real time by the AI to conform to almost any output format.  If the PIM truly supports data sharing for read and write via a skill or MCP then the PIM provider can no longer restrict the number of outputs or output formats.

At PIMInto we do not believe that pricing alone is a reason to chose a PIM.  The features that a PIM offer are critical in the decision making process.  The philosophy of the PIM provider is critical in the decision making process. While PIMInto PIM offers AI Skill and MCP connectivity with any "Premium" paid plan starting at $600 per month, other PIM providers generally do not.  The providers that do offer these features are generally "expensive solutions" that cost upwards of $25,000 to $30,000 Annually.  These include:

• Akeneo: Provides MCP capabilities currently in a beta and invite-only phase, focusing on product cloud data and AI-driven enrichment with some current gaps in workflow and media handling.

• Inriver, Salsify, and Pimberly: Offer narrower, more targeted AI integration focused primarily on data access, automated internal workflows, and AI-assisted product content creation rather than full native protocol communication.

• Optimizely PIM: Features native system tools and connectors designed to bridge PIM data with remote MCP servers and automated AI agent skills.

And while these products are robust and may offer features that PIMInto does not, they are, to our knowledge missing basic functionality like "Import Rollback" and other features that the PIMInto team consider standard functionality.
