Default PIM Product Attributes

The Product Information Management (PIM) System requires that a minimum number of predefined attributes are available for product information to be assigned to.  The internal variable names and the attribute types for these default attributes is fixed and cannot be changed.  This allows the PIM to function properly and maintain the minimum amount of data for all products defined or stored in the PIM.

Attribute variables can be mapped to different variable names (including the default attributes)  using "Views." For more information about mapping and advanced concepts see the topic:  Restricting Access to Attributes and Data

sku - SKU, or Stock Keeping Unit, is a unique identifier or code that businesses use to track inventory or products. In the realm of a Product Information Management System (PIM), an SKU is critical for organizing, managing, and maintaining detailed information about each product and is used to uniquely identify each product.

title - A "Product Title" is the specific, descriptive name assigned to a product that distinctly identifies it in the product catalog and Product Information Management System. This title often includes key information such as brand, product type, unique features, or model number. In a PIM, product titles play a pivotal role in improving product discovery, both for internal management purposes and for customers searching online. An effective product title enhances SEO performance, ultimately boosting visibility on search engines and directly influencing customer engagement and conversion rates. The meticulous management of product titles within a PIM can significantly enhance a business's e-commerce success.

thumbnail - A "Thumbnail" is a compact visual representation or image of a product, typically displayed in a reduced size. These smaller images allow users to quickly scan a wide range of products without overloading the system or taking significant data load times. Within a PIM, careful management of product thumbnails is paramount as they significantly contribute to user experience by aiding quick product identification, enhancing search capabilities, and influencing purchasing decisions. Proper thumbnail implementation can boost a website's SEO performance, enhancing visibility on search engines and directly impacting e-commerce success.

status - "Status" refers to the current availability or life cycle state of a specific product in the inventory. This status can typically have one of three values in the Product Information Management System: Active, Inactive, or Deleted.

"active" status means the product is currently available for sale and can be returned in the product listings, search results, channels or feeds.

"inactive" status is used for products temporarily unavailable for sale but still exist within the system. These products are generally hidden from customer-facing platforms but remain accessible for potential future use.

A "deleted" status indicates that the product has been permanently removed from the Product Information Management System (PIM) and is no longer available or relevant for management or data editing or reporting purposes.

Effective management of product statuses in a PIM is crucial for maintaining accurate, up-to-date inventory data, which in turn influences sales strategies, customer experience, and overall e-commerce success. It's an integral part of product information management, ensuring that only relevant, current product data is presented to the customer.

categories - A product can belong to multiple categories. Categories is a collection of values and is used for generating a dynamic product hierarchy.  For more detailed information about defining product categories and related functionality, please see the topic Product Categories.

variation_of - the sku for the default presentation of the collection of variant products.  This value will contain a valid salable product sku.  Unlike other PIM, PIMInto does not create "phantom" non salable parents for variations but instead assigns the parent role to an actual variant of the product.  This allows for better "Fast Data Serving" via the API to connected eCommerce sites.  Connected sites do not need to have code embedded to identify non salable parent sku's.

variation_skus - a list of related sku's that are variations of the current product sku.

variation_attributes - A list of attributes that define the configuration of the product variants.  This may contain one or more attributes that define the relationship between the variant products.

For more information about properly defining product variants please see the help topic Product Variants.
